My Hot Vampire Summer…

I realized this morning that Summer 2010 is shaping up to be one hot vampire summer for me! I love the fact that I can still get so excited about vampires even now that I’m in my 30s… life doesn’t get much better than this!

Read on to see the top five reasons that I’ve taken on a vampire-like schedule lately (reading into the wee hours of the mornings) and why my husband has been working feverishly to create a new “bloody” cocktail to satisfy my vamp-like urges (recipes to come!)…

#1

First is the release of Lover Mine, #8 in J.R. Ward‘s Black Dagger Brotherhood series that came out in April. Now, I am a total newbie to this series, but oh. my. god. do I love it. Now, because I was slow to pick it up, I wasn’t able to gobble up Lover Mine as soon as it was released (it’s the eighth book in the series!), but I’m slowly catching up. Right now, I’m reading Lover Enshrined, which is Phury’s story. Next will come Rehvenge’s story with Lover Avenged, and then… John Matthew’s story! I love John Matthew and have heard such good things about this book, so I just can’t wait to pick it up. Needless to say, that’s a lot of vampire lovin’ there… ;-)

#2

Second is the release of Dead in the Family, #10 in Charlaine Harris‘s Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampires series that came out in May. I first picked up this series a couple of years ago when True Blood first aired on HBO (oh my, has it been that long ago already!?!). I quickly read through the series (LOVED it) during the first season (more on this later!) and have loved watching how HBO has changed it along the way. What a fantastic world Charlaine has created, and I can’t wait to read this next installment. I am especially eager to see more of Eric and to see how his and Sookie’s relationship develops, and whether Bill will EVER redeem himself in my eyes (NOT likely).

#3

Third is the release of Bullet, #19 in Laurell Hamilton‘s Anita Blake series this past week, which I’m reading now. Anita is quite possibly one of my favorite bad-ass heroines of all time (so far!), and I was kind of non-plussed by Hamilton’s Anita novella from earlier this year, Flirt, so this was a long-awaited release for me. I’ve really missed Anita and her guns. Plus, I’d taken a bit of a vacation from vampire fiction lately, too, so it has been great to pal around with Jean-Claude and Asher again. And, of course, who can get enough of Anita and the rest of her men? Already, we’ve seen some steamy m/m/m/f and BDSM action!

#4

Fourth is the True Blood Season #3 premiere on HBO, scheduled for THIS SUNDAY! It feels like it has been FOR-ever since Season #2 and, oh, how I’ve missed Sookie, Bill, Eric, Jason and all of the other wacky characters and storylines that HBO has brought into the series. True Blood is truly unique and so enjoyable to watch even completely separate from Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampires series. Not to mention that it’s just hot, hot, hot… visions of hot grave sex and trippy orgies come to mind. Oh, and Jason dancing on top of his pick-up truck pretending he’s a god… that was funny. Can’t wait to see what HBO has in store for us this season. You can bet that I will be kicking back with my hubs and sis on Sunday toasting to our fave characters with one of my new bloody cocktails!

#5

Fifth is the June 30 release of the third cinematic installment of the Twilight saga, “Eclipse.” Now, I have seemingly had a love-hate relationship with Twilight this past couple of years. I LOVED the Twilight books. I love them so much that I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read them (more than 8!). I was so excited when I first heard that they were going to make them into movies. My sis and I went to the midnight premiere of the first movie when it came out and I was left with this really disheartened feeling afterward. I felt that it was a joke. As serious and heartfelt as I felt the books were (okay, maybe I was taking them too seriously), I felt that the movie was just laughing at it all and the low-budget quality of the film was just sad. So, I tried to take it all at face value and just appreciate the movies for their kitsch value. It’s still fun to see the characters come alive on screen, no matter how cheesy the dialogue or pathetic the special effects (um, glitter people, anyone?!?).They are funny and kind of a joke, but I guess that’s what makes them fun (plus, the special effects have improved with the budgets in the consecutive films). I went to the midnight premiere of the second movie with my sis as well, and when I heard she wasn’t going to be around to go to the midnight premiere of “Eclipse” with me this year, I admit I got a little sad. But, never fear, my hubs has picked up the torch and has pledged that he will at least go see the movie with me later this month, which is really monumental since he really couldn’t stand it when I was reading the books (jealous much?). Now I must admit that I’m just a tiny bit excited about it… just a little. ;-)
